We completed the fourth phase of our beach erosion mitigation project this month and the sand bag retaining wall system is proving to be quite effective. We now have more usable sand space for recreating – and no further erosion in the areas where the sand bag walls have been built.
Even during the recent King Tide conditions, the bags were successful in preventing the waves and extreme surges from reaching the club house patio and picnic table area. In comparison, the mobile beach park next door has lost a great deal of sand as they do not have a barrier in place.
Please make sure that no one jumps off of the bags (or steps on the edges of the bags) as that does more harm to the structural integrity of the system than Mother Nature.
We will remain vigilant in our ongoing effort to keep more sand in place -- and to prevent future erosion along our beach front.
